Using Traffic Exchanges can be a very simple, quick way to get lots and lots of traffic to your site

Traffic Exchanges are FREE to join and you earn "credits" by surfing other sites. How it works is that every time you view a page you earn so many credits. You can then turn these credits into hits to your site depending on the "credit ratio"

The Credit Ratio

The credit ratio or the surf ratio is simply the number of sites you have to visit to get one hit to your site
Many Traffic Exchanges have a 2:1 ratio which means you have to surf 2 sites to earn 1 credit

Once you have earned just one credit you will start getting hits back to your site
This is usually done automatically, although some Traffic Exchanges allow you to set a percentage to different sites you have listed in your members area, or even to set a percentage to "store" in your credit bank, so you can use these later e.g. at the weekend when most people are surfing

The Counter

Traffic Exchanges has a "counter", which is simply the minimum period you have to view a site before the "next site" button can be clicked for credit
If you click too soon you will not earn anything - effectively you will lose your credit

Some Traffic Exchanges will expect you to click on an image, rather than the "next site" button. This is to try and stop cheats, who have been known in the past to use auto surf "bots", which is a computer program that will take over the mouse and click automatically

These kind of programs will not work on the best exchanges, so it always pays to be careful which Traffic Exchanges you are using, to make sure you only get the best possible traffic

Do Traffic Exchanges Work??

I am often asked if Traffic Exchanges work. The short answer is that they can work if you use them the right way. Just promoting affiliate URL's is a recipie for disaster
Instead you should either concentrate on:

1. Lead Capture Pages, where you put a short message followed by a name/email box, and then send people information from your autoresponder, or
2. Join a program where there is a signup form similar to a Lead Capture page that you can send people to directly

Surf Only The Best Traffic Exchanges

I would really recommend concentrating on those Traffic Exchanges listed in the Top 20,000 by Alexa. These Traffic Exchanges without doubt give the best results. Traffic Exchanges that can't even get into the Top 50,000 I would use with caution. It's still worth using them but you must not get any more than 10 credits per day on these, as they simply haven't got enough other people surfing to send your page too - all your pages will be seen by the same people!!
